The aim of this Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations qualification is to recognise the knowledge, skills and competence of individuals who specialise in a wood-based occupation in the construction industry.

Awarding Body

The awarding organisation for this qualification is ProQual Awarding Body and the regulatory body is the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (Ofqual). The specification for these qualifications has been approved by the Welsh Government for use by centres in Wales and by the Council for the Curriculum Examinations and Assessment (CCEA) for use by centres in Northern Ireland. This qualification has been accredited onto the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF).

  • The NVQ will allow you to gain the relevant qualification and a CSCS Blue ‘Skilled Worker’ card

Candidates must complete all of the Mandatory units, plus the Mandatory and/or Optional unit requirements from one of the Pathways.

Pathway 1 - Site Carpentry

Optional Units – candidates must complete a minimum of three units
  • Installing First Fixing Components in the Workplace
  • Installing Second Fixing Components in the Workplace
  • Erecting Structural Carcassing Components in the Workplace
  • Maintaining Non-structural Carpentry Work in the Workplace
  • Setting up and using transportable cutting and shaping machines in the workplace

Pathway 2 - Architectural Joinery

Optional Unit – candidates must complete this unit
  • Manufacturing routine architectural joinery products in the workplace
Optional Units – candidates must complete a minimum of one unit
  • Producing setting out details for routine architectural joinery products in the workplace
  • Marking out from setting out details for routine architectural joinery products in the workplace
  • Setting up and using transportable cutting and shaping machines in the workplace

Pathway 3 - Structural Post & Beam Carpentry

Optional Unit – candidates must complete all units
  • Setting Out Timber Framework in the Workplace
  • Fabricating Timber Framework in the Workplace
  • Assembling and Erecting Heavy Timber Framework – Post and Beam in the Workplace

Pathway 4 - Light Structural Timber Framing

Optional Unit – candidates must complete all units
  • Installing Frames and Linings in the Workplace
  • Installing Internal Mouldings in the Workplace
  • Maintaining Non-structural Carpentry Work in the Workplace
  • Confirming the Occupational Method of Work in the Workplace

Pathway 5 - Timber Frame Erection

Optional Unit – candidates must complete all units
  • Erecting timber walls and floors in the workplace
  • Erecting timber roof structures in the workplace
Additional Unit – candidates may choose to take this unit, it will not count towards the qualification
  • Slinging and hand signalling the movement of suspended loads in the workplace

Pathway 6 - Timber Decks and Cladding

Optional Unit – candidates must complete this unit
  • Setting up and using transportable cutting and shaping machines in the workplace
Optional Units – candidates must complete a minimum of one unit
  • Installing Rainscreen Wall Cladding Systems in the Workplace
  • Installing Specialised Wall Cladding and Bespoke Systems in the Workplace
  • Installing Timber Wall Cladding Systems in the Workplace
  • Installing Low Level Timber Decks in the Workplace
  • Installing Elevated Timber Decks in the Workplace

Assessment

Candidates must demonstrate the level of knowledge described in the unit. Assessment is the process of measuring a candidate’s knowledge and understanding against the standards set in the qualification. Assessment guidance is included to assure consistency. Each candidate is required to produce evidence which demonstrates their achievement of all of the learning outcomes and assessment criteria for each unit. Evidence can include:
  • assignments/projects/reports
  • worksheets
  • portfolio of evidence
  • record of oral and/or written questioning
  • candidate test papers

NVQ Qualification & Certification

Candidates who achieve the requirements for this qualification will be awarded:
  • A certificate listing all units achieved, and
  • A certificate giving the full qualification title "ProQual Level 2 NVQ Diploma in Wood Occupations"

Entry Requirements

There are no formal entry requirements for this qualification.

For short courses a completion certificate is available at the end of the course. You can screenshot this or print it out to confirm completion of the training.

For accredited courses a certificate will be sent directly to you from the appropriate awarding body.
